One World Birth–an exciting new projectIn order to “fix” breastfeeding, we need to “fix” birth. Women have largely lost faith in their bodies’ ability to do what they are intended to do. By medicalizing birth, we have taken the power away from women. And by medicalizing birth, we have greatly affected breastfeeding and the continuum of pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and mothering. One World Birth is an exciting new project by two British filmmakers. They are amassing an amazing resource and I’m excited to see where it leads. Take a look at their trailer and if you like what you see, consider sharing it with those you know. One Response to “One World Birth–an exciting new project” Leave a Reply |

I was thrilled to see the trailer and learn of the project, which I’d not yet heard about. I experienced my first birth in 1968 as a horrible process which it took 18 years for me to overcome enough to try again. Suzanna Arms became my personal champion through her book Immaculate Deception. I went on to have three totally natural births full of hard work and unbelievable joy. I have worked with new mothers for over 20 years now, and am saddened each day by the current state of affairs. If they only knew what they were missing. Elective C/S just tears at my heart - I can’t imagine being so afraid of my own body, or feeling so helpless and incapable. Yet most expectant couples today take no classes at all, or only a 2 hr orientation that is called a “childbirth class”, some even saying they “want” a natural birth but having no clue how to acheive that. Today I am forwarding your website to a colleague at a breastfeeding conference where I hope she will be able to announce it to the 300+ women there. I was unable to open your page due to security screens on my military computer here, and hope it is still active. Is there new info on what’s happening?
